    The 2023 Government Reading Framework advocates a strategic approach to nurturing a reading habit rather than relying on an eclectic mix of activities. This booklet aims to provide practical ideas on how to develop a strategic approach to motivate pupils to read.

A taste of what I have been doing since starting as The Reading Jackdaw:

  • Creating R4P resources for classrooms and libraries available here and on my TES shop

  • Creating Reading Resources and Bespoke Reading Lists for schools.

  • Creating unique and bespoke Fiction Menus - great literary presents for friends and family.

  • Librarian in residence for a primary school, a remote and on site role, working closely with the Literacy Lead, Headteacher, Support Staff and pupils to provide expertise, support, creativity and resources for the growth and development of R4P across school including reorganising the Library space.

  • Supporting a local school with all things reading for pleasure.

  • Creating reading and book club resource packs aimed at Year 7 for a book charity, as well as planning a new intiative for primary schools.

  • Supporting an EPQ day for a secondary school, running seminars and lectures for 6th form, topics covered: Developing research questions; planning research and project management; time management; evaluating information; notetaking; referencing and creating bibliographies.

  • Volunteering with a Literary Festival on their Education Committee working with local schools providing support with all things reading, books and theatre.

  • Volunteering at a local Oxfam bookshop and Children Hospice shop sorting and selling books.

Having worked as a teacher and a school librarian, I am aware that TIME is often the overriding barrier to realising all the great ideas that you have.
